A lifelong educator and administrator, Spencer taught for over 40 years at Mobile County Training School, culminating in service as its Principal. He served the City of Prichard for over three decades, concluding his tenure there as its Parks and Recreation Director. Spencer's life was perhaps best illuminated by his God-given talent for instruction, having schooled generations of young people in the fine arts, mathematics, athletics, and various trade skills. Spencer fostered career passions by teaching hundreds of children how to paint and craft and saved lives by teaching just as many how to swim. He was a graduate of Alabama State College and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc. He was a faithful lifelong member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, having previously served multiple terms as a national officer for the American Lutheran Church.
The son of Spencer (Sr) and Thelma Merriweather, who preceded him in death, Spencer is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Cynthia, son Spencer III (Lila), granddaughter Lucia, daughter, Deidra, with whom he was reconnected late in life, and a wide array of deeply devoted brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who meant everything to him. The family expresses special gratitude to Belinda Harris for her exceptional care and concern for Spencer through his years of convalescence.
A private burial service will be held for Spencer this week and a memorial service at his beloved Martin Luther Lutheran Church will be scheduled for a later date.

Condolences to the family! Mr. Merriweather was one of the most committed and excellent communicators that instructed us at Mobile County Training High School. He made a lasting impression on us. One of his sayings: "He who knows he knows is wise, but he who knows yet not knows is a fool, I'm not calling anyone a fool" May the Lord strengthen the family. God bless you.

Sending my prayers for his family. He was my math teacher at Mobile County Training School. He was one of the teachers that help get school buses for the many many kids that had to walk home. He also was my art teacher. Very nice teacher will be missed.

I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. He was a great teacher he taught me at Mcts on 82-84 in math along with my cousin Ben Crenshaw and James Moore and many of my friend he was a great mentor to us all. Praying for the entire family

Sending prayers and sincere condolences to the Merriweather family and loved ones. Mr. Merriweather was a wonderful Middle school teacher.
