With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Mildred Lucille (Schuley) Sheckell, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who peacefully passed away on March 22, 2024, at the age of 92 in Corydon, IN.
Born on April 7, 1931, to William Schuley and Ruby (McGuire) Sheckell in Sulphur, IN, Lucille embodied warmth, kindness, and unwavering love throughout her life. She dedicated her days to enriching the lives of those around her, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and joy.
Lucille found fulfillment in her work as a laborer in a woodworking factory in New Albany, IN, but her greatest joy came from her family. On April 7, 1951, she embarked on a lifelong journey with her beloved husband Lawrence Sheckell, sharing forty-five blessed years together in Corydon, IN. Their union was a testament to enduring love and unwavering devotion.
A devout member of the Heartland Church of the Nazarene in Floyd Knobs, IN, Lucille's faith illuminated her path and guided her actions. She found solace and strength in her spirituality, which radiated through her gentle demeanor and compassionate soul.
Lucille's passions were as diverse as they were delightful. From tending to her beloved garden to tackling challenging crossword puzzles, and eagerly tuning in to watch Wheel of Fortune, she found joy in life's simple pleasures. Yet, above all, her heart overflowed with love whenever she was in the company of her son Larry, whom she adored beyond measure.
In the embrace of her eternal rest, Mildred Lucille Sheckell reunites with her husband Lawrence, her parents, William and Ruby, her sister Edna Pipes, her half-brothers Hubert Schuley and Curtis Knierium, and her step-brother William Sheckell. Though she may have left this earthly realm, her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew and cherished her.
Lucille leaves behind a legacy of love carried on by her devoted son Larry (Angela) Sheckell, step-sisters Goldia Roberts, Marietta Strange, Betty Hardin, grandchildren Helen Sheckell Clifton and Larry Sheckell Jr., four great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, her dear friend Howard Miles, caregiver and friend Trina Miller, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate the beautiful life of Mildred Lucille Sheckell. Visitation will be held from 10am to 1pm on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Swarens Funeral Home in Ramsey, IN, followed by funeral services at 1pm. Lucille will be laid to rest in the peaceful embrace of East Cemetery in Alton, IN, where her spirit will forever soar alongside the gentle winds and whispering trees.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Green Valley Care Center for their compassionate care and support during Lucille's final months of life. Their dedicated rehabilitation and nursing teams provided comfort and assistance, ensuring Lucille's well-being until the end.
