Millie Graham Obituary

Mildred Bennett Graham, affectionately known as Millie, passed away peacefully at the age of 93. Born on January 29, 1932, in Springfield, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Lennox M. and Mattie Mae Bennett, sister of W. Murray Bennett, and wife of Rod Graham of 25 years-all of whom preceded her in death.

Millie's life was one of love, family, and service. She is survived by her children, Joseph "Joey" A. (Meree) Williamson and Judy W. Tinder; her four grandchildren-Brooke (Chad) Bridges, Brittany (Logan) Webster, Joseph (Courtney) Williamson, and Michael Williamson-and nine great-grandchildren: Brayden, Brooklyn, and Brynlee Bridges; Leighton and Saylor Webster; and Cameran, Kenzie, Sawyer, and Suede Williamson.

Growing up in a small town in Springfield, Millie was deeply influenced by her grandparents, who became her safe space and instilled in her the values of compassion, family, and community. She cherished the time spent with them, whether traveling to Asheville, enjoying tea from a silver tea service, or learning life lessons through shared wisdom. These experiences shaped Millie's dedication to teaching, a profession she pursued with passion and care. She graduated from Columbia College and began her teaching career in Norway and later moved to Columbia, where she taught many years in Lexington/Richland School District Five at Chapin Elementary and Irmo Middle School. In later years, she received a Master's Degree from USC in Psychology and became a Guidance Counselor.

Millie and Rod shared a love of travel and meeting new people, creating memories and friendships that enriched their lives. In 2017, Millie moved to Heritage at Lowman, where she quickly formed close, enduring friendships and brought her warmth and kindness to all who knew her.

A devoted member of Chapin Community Christian Church, Millie loved flowers, planting, and watching birds at her feeder-small joys that brought her peace and happiness daily.

Her spirit of devotion to children's education will continue through memorials to Chapin Community Christian Church's Wave Ministry (https://chapinccc.org/children).

A Graveside service will be held at ten o'clock a.m., Sunday morning, October 5, 2025 at the Springfield Cemetery with the Reverend Paul Allen officiating. A service to celebrate Millie's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Chapin Community Christian Church with the Reverend Jody Flowers and Pastor Bob Brooks officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church sanctuary.

Millie's family would like to extend a special thank you to Jennifer from Bee Well, whose love and care made her feel like family. The family has appreciated the exceptional care provided by the Heritage at Loman nurses and staff for the last eight years.

Millie Bennett Graham will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and teacher whose life was defined by love, compassion, and a joy for the simple pleasures of life. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
