Met Doc about 40 years ago when he was in the Reserves : "Have scalpel will travel". I first met him at Lafayette River Branch Clinic and Geographic Command. He was a respected figure and loved the Navy and being on ships. Navy Medicine was very glad to have him with such availability and humility that he could service several surgeons on leave over a month of Shipboard Active Duty. A couple of us took up his case where he was beyond the age of entry to the Reserves, and we supported his entry despite the Regs. As things would happen, they waived the mandatory retirement from age 60 to age 68. This gave Doc a shot at a retirement with pay and benefits, and he would not be forced out. I remember his pleasure when he found out that he would not be forced out. A great patriot and a fine gentleman.
