Milton M. Mickow, 90, of Crystal Lake passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 8, 2021 due to natural causes. He was born in Chicago on July 6, 1930 to Milton W. and Stella (nee Hemzacek) Mickow, and attended Morrill Elementary School, Lindblom High School, and took classes at the University of Illinois Chicago Undergraduate Division campus at Navy Pier and at Illinois Institute of Technology, although he did not receive a degree. On September 27, 1952 he married Joan Johnson, the love of his life, and after living and working in Pennsylvania, Iowa, and then back to Illinois, he settled in Crystal Lake in 1963 with his growing family.

Milt was a kind and loving husband and father, and with Joan, they created a house filled with love and joy for their children, grandchildren. He was the love of her life for more than 68 years. He loved to vacation with his family at their lake home in northern Wisconsin, was an avid snow and water skier, and enjoyed both the excitement of driving his jet boat and the serenity of observing nature while relaxing on the shore.

In his work life, Milt was a fair and honest man who loved problem solving, and he used his skills and passion for his work to become President of Chicago Eastern and Chicago Trashpacker Corporations, companies that manufactured grain storage equipment and industrial compactors, until he fully retired at the age of 76, even though he still enjoyed his work.

Milt is survived by his wife, Joan; daughter Linda (Mark) Feldmann, sons John (Cathy) Mickow, Bill (Andrea) Mickow, and Tom (Nancy) Mickow, and his 10 grandchildren, Christopher Feldmann, Thomas Feldmann, Lauren Mickow, Kirsten Mickow, Rachel Mickow, Becca Mickow, Sara Mickow, Alex Mickow, Scott Mickow, and Jeffrey Mickow.

Milt's joy of life, sense of humor and love of family will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, January 14th at 1:30 PM at St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church at 451 West Terra Cotta Avenue, Crystal Lake, Illinois.
