Minerva Valverde

Minerva (Ybanez) Valverde, 92, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2026, in the comfort of her home in George West, Texas, lovingly surrounded by her family.

Minnie was born October 21, 1933, in George West to Frutoso P. and Emelia (Alvarez) Ybanez. She was a proud graduate of George West High School and entered the workforce at a young age serving as a dedicated cashier. On Christmas Day, December 25, 1955, she married the love of her life, Louis Valverde, at St. George Catholic Church in Geroge West. She was a faithful and active member of St. George and was loved dearly by her community. She enjoyed word search puzzles, reading, watching western movies, playing dominoes and uno, and being heavily involved with her church.

Minnie was preceded in death by her parents, Frutoso and Emilia Ybanez; her husband, Louis Valverde; a daughter, Norma Jean Valverde; a sister, Elia Wilburn; and two brothers, Lauro Ybanez and Felipe Ybanez.

Left behind to cherish precious memories of their mother include her daughter, Letisia "Leti" Valverde of George West; and two sons, Jorge "Corky" Valverde (Edahlia Chapa) and Jesse Valverde (Noemi Aguilar), both of George West; as well as her sister, Elma Ybanez Sarmiento. Also mourning the passing of their grandmother are her six grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Christopher (Rebecca) Valverde, Emelia (Anthony Villarreal) Muniz, Ben Cantu, Jorgie (Macey Gutierrez) Valverde, Matthew (Lizzy) Morin, and Armando "Mandito" Morin; as well as 14 great-grandchildren, Madelynn, Jocelyn, Jorge "Tres", Liam, Brielle Valverde, Eric, Isaac, Yvette, Ashley, Brooklynn, Aracelli, Adam Morin, Christopher "Dos" Valverde, and Elena & Auggie Villarreal.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, January 31, at St. George Catholic Church in George West with a Rosary to be recited at 10 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. with Father Romeo Salinas officiating. Minnie will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Louis, at the George West Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jim Wilburn, Anthony Villarreal, Matthew Morin, Christopher Valverde, Andre Sarimento, Ysidro Casas, Orlando Diaz and Joe Casas.

The family would like to extend an invitation to all those attending for a luncheon that will be held at the St. George Catholic Church Hall following the interment.
