Mitch Browning, 70, of Lubbock, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday evening, October 29, 2023, after a brief illness. Mitch was born on August 31, 1953, in Lamesa, Dawson County, Texas, to Ronnie Browning and Doris (Gage) Browning – Stotts.
Mitch attended Tahoka High School, graduating with the Senior Class of 1970. He later attended Wayland Baptist University where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. He proudly served his country and was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He received numerous awards, such as the pistol expert award and two rifle expert awards, as well as being in the Special Forces in Recon.
He married the love of his life, Nancy Lacy, and they were united in marriage on February 16, 1983. Nancy preceded him in death on May 7, 2013.
Mitch worked for the Lubbock Avalanche Journal for 20 years and served as a Probation Officer in Terry County. He also worked as a route salesman for Little Debbie’s for 5 years. He loved baseball and his favorite team was the Chicago Cubs. He coached youth baseball in Lubbock for over 20 years, as well as coaching his own sons in athletics. He also was involved in coaching football and tennis. Mitch was a member of Quaker Avenue Baptist Church for over 10 years.
Those left to honor and cherish his memories include his three sons: Erik Browning and his wife Julie of Lubbock, Shane Browning and his wife Kelsey of Hico, Texas, and Chris Browning of Wichita, Kansas; his father, Ronnie Browning of Lubbock; his mother, Doris Stotts of Tahoka; three brothers: Randall Stotts and his wife Donna of Grain Valley, Missouri, Darryl Stotts of Lubbock, and Shawn Stotts and his wife Genna of Canyon; two grandchildren: Willa Gray Browning and Barrett Alexander Browning. He was preceded in death by his wife, and his step-father, Raymon Stotts.
Visitation for Mitch will be held from 10 AM to 1:45 PM on Friday, November 3, 2023, at the Venue on Broadway of Combest Family Funeral Home, 2202 Broadway, Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services will follow at 2 PM at the Venue on Broadway. Monty Hilliard, Senior Pastor of Quaker Avenue Baptist Church, will be the officiant. Final rites and interment will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the personal care and direction of Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
Pallbearers will be Erik Browning, Shane Browning, Chris Browning, Darryl Stotts, Randall Stotts, and Shawn Stotts.
