Mitchell "Mitch" Craig Smith, age 67, of Lebanon, Virginia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his home following a lengthy 4 ½ year battle with cancer.
Mitch was born at Clinch Valley Hospital in Richlands, Virginia, on December 7, 1957, the son of Donnie Smith and the late Alma Jean Smith. He graduated from Richlands High School in 1976. He was a former supervisor for Simmons-Rand, a delivery driver for Lowe's, and later worked for Bristol Compressors. Mitch loved working out, attending high school football games, going to concerts, and going to the beach. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Bessie V. Grace, his father-in-law, Swanson Tiller, his mother-in-law, Jeri Tiller, and his brother-in-law, Rodney Tiller.
Those who remain to carry on his spirit are his:
Beloved wife of 25 years and 11 months, Crystal Tiller Smith of Lebanon, VA
Son, Jeremy Smith and his fiancée Truly of Belfast, VA
Step-son, Blane Breeding and his wife, Jorita of Rosedale, VA
Father, Donnie Smith of Raven, VA
Sister Donna Michaels and her husband, Ricky, of Pounding Mill, VA
Brother-in-law, Anthony Tiller, and his girlfriend, Melinda Clark Penland of Bluefield, WV
Nephew Ricky Michaels and his wife, Jasmine of Pounding Mill, VA
Grandchild, Quincy Breeding of Abingdon, VA
Step-grandchildren Malachi and Christine
Great niece/nephew Isaiah Michaels, Amelia Michaels, and a host of family and friends also survive.
Thank you, especially to Dr. Tawadros and all the chemo nurses, especially Penny Harman and the staff of Legacy Hospice. Also, thank Truly Potter, Michael Hale, Ronson Thomas, Darrell Glover, Brad Hurley, William Johnson, and Matt Hurley for always helping.
A Celebration of Life service in Mitch's honor will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, with the Rev. Barry Absher officiating.
