Mitchell Swaden Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 4, 2024.
On July 19, 2024, the world lost a lovely man. Mitchell Swaden was an avid cyclist, a mountain climber, a self-taught car and bicycle mechanic and woodworker, a maker of bagels and cream cheese and a damn fine lawyer. Mitchell loved living full time at the cabin on Lac Courte Oreilles near Hayward, WI for the past 10 years where he could be outside enjoying his many hobbies. More importantly, Mitchell was a loving husband, father, Zayde, brother, uncle and friend. Mitchell was an Assistant Public Defender in the Hennepin County Public Defender's Office for 30 years. He also was co-founder and co-owner of Bagel & Bagel in Kansas City, which later became Einstein Bros Bagels. On the logo, he's the brother with the beard alongside Debra's brother. Mitchell is survived by his loving wife, Debra Lozoff Swaden; treasured daughter, Hannah and son-in-law, Linden Weiswerda; beloved son, Eli and daughter-in-law, Leah; grandchildren, Zev, Alma and Levon; brother, Marty and his wife, Liz; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great- nephews and his lifelong best friend, Rick Cohen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sid and Jessie Swaden; and sisters, Patti Shapiro and Barbara Rosen. Funeral service 11:00 AM on TUESDAY, July 23rd at BET SHALOM CONGREGATION, 13613 Orchard Rd., Minnetonka. The family requests no flowers and that donations in Mitchell's memory be made to Brighter Days Family Grief Center, Eden Prairie, MN, Bet Shalom Congregation of Minnetonka, MN or to your favorite Democratic candidate. Shiva 7:00 PM on Tuesday at Bet Shalom Congregation and 7:00 PM on Wednesday at the Swaden's Residence. A special thanks to Dr. Katharine Price and Dr. Daniel Price of the Mayo Clinic Oncology Department. Funeral is available on zoom: www.hodroffs.com/MitchellSwaden
