Mitzi Diane Hauser Vowels, mom, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend has gone on to receive her heavenly crown. Born September 2, 1952, Mitzi passed away February 27, 2025, after a fierce battle with cancer. Mitzi was a born again Christian and held tightly to her faith throughout her life and during her illness. You could tell by her writings in Moments with Mitzi, which was a blog she started, that she was a believer and trusted the Lord to be with her during trying times.
Mitzi graduated from Northwestern State University with an education degree. She then went on to receive her master's degree from Centenary College. She was a teacher at heart, starting her career at T.L. Rhodes Elementary School & retiring from Caddo Parish at South Highlands Elementary Magnet School. During this time, she was recognized for many accolades including Teacher of the Year at University Elementary School. After Mitzi retired, she taught in private school at St. Marks Cathedral where she started the first grade Teddy Bear Tea Party. She officially retired from First Baptist Church School ready to travel in 2020. Mitzi touched so many lives and made a wealth of friends over the course of her 47-year career. Conservatively speaking, she taught over one thousand children and had so much love & compassion for her "firsties". Mitzi was always looking for a teaching moment, it was in her blood. She often said her goal was to make learning fun-one of her cherished room moms remembers her saying "Readers are Leaders". She has stayed in contact with her Star Bear families and bragged on her former student to friends and family since her retirement.
Mitzi was an example of having a servant's heart. She babysat nieces, nephews, and cousins and provided for her own siblings when her father died at an early age. As a preteen, she could make a mean beanie weenie or pot of potato soup when her single mother was working. Mitzi never forgot her father & shared memories of him with Juliet throughout her life.
Mitzi was also an adventurer. She was always up for a good trip whether it was internationally to see Paris, London, or Prague or to the Regards condo in OB. Mitzi and Juliet, her pride and joy, ventured out to San Francisco, Las Vegas, and the Grand Canyon. Their favorite hideout over the past several years was Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Some of Mitzi's most cherished memories were made when she and Juliet would find the perfect cabin in the mountains of Broken Bow for some time by the fire with their fur babies. Mitzi loved her "Juju" and Juliet was devoted to her mother to the very end. She spent her final years in her precious pink Provenance cottage, cruising around in her golf cart "Goldie" with family and friends or for tacos at El Cabo Verde. She loved her Provenance community and truly lived the retirement life of her dreams.
Mitzi was preceded in death by her grandmother, "Nanny" and grandfather, Michwich; father, Elbert Duran Hauser and mother, Dorothy (Dot) McCoy.
Mitzi is survived by her daughter, Juliet Vowels (Josh) & fur daughter, Vivienne Pearl; brother, Robert Hauser (Kim); sisters, Sheri Kyle (Bob), and Debra Hauser; bonus grandson, Cade Coates (Bailey) and fur grands, Beau and Lala; nieces and nephews: Lynzie Smith and Colton Kyle, Logan Hauser, Leigh Ann Riche, Lacey Byram, Rachel Stuckey and Amelia and Austin Smith; great nieces and nephews: Harry Smith, Penelope and Adalynne Kyle, Waylon and Ruby Jean Hauser, Reese Mae and Sunnie Jo Riche, Brady and Beau Byram, and Wyatt and Weston Stuckey and a multitude of cousins, friends, and prayer warriors.
Pallbearers: Robert Hauser, Bob Kyle, Colton Kyle, Logan Hauser, Austin Smith, Josh Coates, Cade Coates.
Honorary Pallbearers: Joel Ebarb, David Ebarb, Michael Wallace.
A private visitation will be held for Mitzi's family at First Baptist Church Shreveport on Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will follow for friends and family from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Graveside service will be at Centuries Memorial on Mansfield Road immediately following the funeral.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the wonderful staff at MD Anderson in Houston, Willis Knighton North & Cancer Center, The Carpenter House and all of Mitzi's incredible friends and family for their immense love and support over the past year.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, as this was a cause close to Mitzi, who generously donated every year.
