Molly Beth Costner, 52, passed away suddenly on December 4, 2024 at her home. She was born in Gaston County on May 20, 1972 to the late Jay Costner and Ann Norman Costner. Those who paved the way to heaven include her parents, her beloved brother, Anthony “Tony” Monroe, best friend, Manda Howe and her first feline child, Owl Kitty Costner.
Molly graduated from Hunter Huss High School, class of 1990 and later in life, from Gaston College class of 2010. Molly lived life on her terms with no apologies. You either got on board or got out of the way. She loved to dance, all kinds of music, 70’s and 80’s tv shows, Dolly Parton, Will Ferrell and especially Zach Galifianakis. She loved the beach and that old blue chair. Molly’s greatest joy was being an aunt. She took the role seriously and spoiled those kids rotten.
As her family, we will never know the countless lives she touched working at The Playhouse, the Shrimp Boat and Freightliner. She was a cheerleader at Ashley Jr. High and Hunter Huss High School. Her love for the sport led her to coach cheerleading and so many of those young girls have posted at this time how much they loved her and the lasting impression she made on their lives. She was “Aunt Molly” to so many more than 3.
Since Mollys passing, so many people have reached out and or posted their love for her. Sharing so many memories with a common theme of how much she made them laugh and how kind she was to them.
As big as her heart was, there could not have been more love and compassion for any cat in need. For anyone who would like to honor her memory, a donation to the Gaston Low-cost Spay/Neuter Clinic would be what she would choose.
Molly was the best cat mom to her 2 boys, Boo and Maxx who will miss her greatly. She is also survived by her sisters, Lisa Costner O’Neill and husband, John; Kim Costner Robinson and husband, Greg; nephew, Matthew Robinson (Meghan Mateer), nieces, Lillian Costner O’Neill and Hannah Catherine O’Neill Adams (Ben) and great niece, Murphy Catherine Adams; special friends, Dana Ferguson, Candi Dixon, Phillip Slaton and Angel Sidavong and many other wonderful friends.
Family and friends will gather for visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, 2024 at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home with Pastor Tripp Hord officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Gaston Memorial Park.
