Mona L. Barnes, 88, of Thompsontown, passed away at 8:07 AM on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at her residence.
Born on September 30, 1936 in Turbett Twp., Juniata County, she is a daughter of the late Norman and Pauline (Turbett) Booher. On September 30, 1955, she married her surviving husband, James D. Barnes, with whom she was blessed to share over 69 years of marriage before her passing.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Pamela L. Feltman and her husband Michael of Thompsontown; two grandchildren, Lauren Smith and her husband Andy and Brody Feltman; nine great grandchildren, Rowan, Andrew, Wrett, Haven, Shea, Rory, Thatcher, Liam, and Arden Smith; two sisters, Nan Boldowsky of Mifflintown and Dolores Wharton and her husband Glen of Port Royal; and many generations of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three siblings, Erie Amtower, Robert Booher, and Norma Jean Booher.
Mona was a 1954 graduate of Tuscarora Valley High School in Port Royal.
She was employed and retired as a Presser for various local garment factories.
In earlier life, she was a member and attended the former Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Thompsontown.
Mrs. Barnes enjoyed word searches, jumbles, watching tv, and going for car rides; however, her greatest joy came from time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 21st, 2025 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville with the Rev. William McNeal officiating. Interment will be private at the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Thompsontown.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mrs. Barnes' memory to the Juniata County Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 251, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
