The Reverend Monsignor Casimir Anthony Bogniak, 94, died November 14, 2025, at Saint Mary's at Asbury Ridge, Erie, Pennsylvania.
Monsignor Bogniak was born on October 14, 1931, in Corry, Pennsylvania, the son of the late John P. Bogniak and Martha (Graczykowski) Bogniak. He attended Corry Area Schools until high school when he transferred to Cathedral Preparatory School graduating in 1949.
Monsignor Bogniak earned his Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy from Gannon College in 1951 while in formation for the priesthood at Saint Mark Seminary, Erie. After completing his formation for the priesthood at Saint Mary Seminary, Baltimore, MD Monsignor was ordained to the priesthood on May 30, 1957 by Bishop Edward Peter McManaman. On May 13, 1984, he was honored with the title of "Monsignor."
He began his priestly ministry as a Parochial Vicar for the parishes of Saint Catherine, DuBois; Our Lady of Peace, Erie; and Saint Peter Cathedral, Erie.
Monsignor Bogniak was appointed Pastor of Saint Charles, New Bethlehem in 1970, where he served for two years. He was appointed Administrator at Sacred Heart, Erie, from 1972 to 1981. He also served as Pastor at Saint George, Erie from 1986 to 1989 and Saint Anthony, Sheffield from 1991 to 1993. Additionally, he fulfilled the role of Parish Administrator or Sacramental Assistant at many parishes throughout the Diocese during his priesthood.
He served the Diocese of Erie as the Vicar for Priests from 1970 to 1976. Between 1981 and 1986 he served as the Episcopal Vicar for the Northern Vicariate of the Diocese of Erie and from 1984 to 1989 he was a member of the Diocesan Presbyterial Council. Monsignor Bogniak retired in 2001 but remained continually active in parish ministry throughout his retirement until declining health limited his ministry.
Beyond diocesan administration work and parish responsibilities, Monsignor Bogniak served as Chaplain at Harborcreek Youth Services between 1993 and 1994. Between 1989 and 1991, while away from the Diocese, he worked with troubled youth at Covenant House in Fort Lauderdale, FL. In retirement Monsignor Bogniak served as Chaplain to the Sisters of Mercy Motherhouse in 2012.
In addition to his parents, Monsignor Bogniak was preceded in death by his stepmother Mary Oldenski Bogniak, his brother, John Bogniak, and his sisters, Theresa Rybka, Angela Burns, and Veronica Dobuzinski.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Patricia Bogniak.
Visitation will take place Thursday, November 20, 2025 at Sacred Heart Church, 816 W. 26th St., Erie, PA 16508 from 9:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, with The Most Reverend Lawrence T. Persico, Bishop of Erie, as the main celebrant. Burial will be in Corry at St. Elizabeth Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Priest Retirement Fund c/o the Diocese of Erie, 429 East Grandview Blvd., Erie, PA 16504.

Father Cas will be missed by so many. He helped me through some tight decisions. He talked with our son on the question of "Is God truly with us during difficult times?" I just loved the answer he gave, it opened our sons thoughts to a new enrichment. RIP
