Montie Dave Stephens

April 1, 1944 – November 8, 2025

Montie Dave Stephens passed away peacefully at his home on November 8, 2025, at the age of 81. He was born April 1, 1944, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, to Josephine (Mulanax) Francis and David Eugene Stephens.

In 1949, Montie and his family moved to Oregon, where he grew up in Grants Pass, Eugene, Dallas, and Lebanon. He graduated in 1962 from Lebanon High School, where he participated in both band and choir.

After graduation, Montie proudly served in the United States Army starting in 1962 with Active-Duty time then Reserves until his retirement as a Major on April 1st, 2004. He was a member of A Company, 3rd Battalion, 12th Special Forces Group (Airborne), serving as a Lieutenant before continuing in Civil Affairs and PSYOP.

Following his Active-Duty military service, while continuing in the reserves, Montie dedicated much of his life to law enforcement. He served with the Oregon State Police from 1967 to 1974, and later with the Lebanon Police Department from 1974 to 1978 and again from 1980 to 1982. He spent many years after that as a log truck driver and dump truck driver until his retirement.

Montie will be remembered for his devotion to community, service to his country, and steadfast integrity. He leaves behind family and friends who will deeply miss his humor, wisdom, and generous spirit.

He is survived by his son, Daniel Stephens (Tina); daughter, Shelley Bolton (K.C.); daughter-in-law, Pattye Morgan; brothers, Larry Stephens (Oregon), Ralph Stephens (Texas), and Ricky Stephens (Louisiana); sister, Janet Powers (Louisiana); and grandchildren, Tye Stephens and Tani Stephens.

He is also remembered by his former wife and mother of his children, Gene A. Shannon, who shared in many years of his life and family.

He was preceded in death by his father, David E. Stephens; mother, Josephine F. Arnold; son, Jerry Stephens; and sisters, Leoma Strothers and Beth Perkins.

A graveside service will be held 1:00 pm, Wednesday, November 19th at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Lebanon, Oregon. Following that there will be a casual gathering to honor Montie's life which will be held at Lebanon Calvary Chapel, 633 Park Street (Fellowship Hall) Lebanon, Oregon from 2:00-4:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to an organization of your choosing that supports our Veterans.

Montie's life was one of purpose, courage, and heart-he will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who knew him.
