Myrna Edwards Obituary
Myrna L. (Moore) Edwards, 83, of Seneca, died Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Oil City Healthcare, following an illness.
She was born in McKeesport on August 25, 1940 (her mother's birthday and her parent's anniversary) to the late Chester and Alice Moore.
She graduated from McKeesport High School in 1958. While working as a secretary to the principal at White Oak Elementary School, she was encouraged to go to college to become a teacher. She graduated from California University of Pennsylvania with a degree in elementary education. She was then hired to teach in the Cranberry Area School District for the 1963-64 school year.
Her love for 21 years was teaching the second grade. During these years, she was an inspiration to countless students, parents, and student-teachers. She was very instrumental in overseeing educational initiatives such as instructional support, community for learning, Title I, summer school, and served as Head Teacher at the Pinoak Elementary School. During these years, she earned multiple master's degrees at Clarion University that helped support these programs. She was nominated for Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year by the administration at Cranberry.
Following her 35 year career in education, she retired, only to start a new career in social services for the Youth Advocate Program and Children's Behavioral Health in Franklin for ten years. She continued as a volunteer with the agency and mentored an Oil City youth until he graduated from Oil City High School.
She was married to Vance Morrow Edwards for 45 years; he preceded her in death in 2012.
Myrna is survived by her son, Jeff Menacher of Cocoa Beach, Florida; a sister, Karen O'Connor (Bill); a brother, Dennis Moore (Kathy); and a sister-in-law, Nadine Moore. Also surviving is a special young man, Micah Beers, whom she supported through his school years, and their friendship continued.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Moore.
The family extends their sincere appreciation and thanks to her support family of doctors and nurses at UPMC Northwest in Seneca.
There will be no public visitation or service held. Private interment was in Brandon Cemetery in Cranberry. Funeral arrangements were completed by Hile-Best Funeral Home in Seneca.
