Myrna Bruner Hinson
Sunday, November 13, 1938 – Wednesday, July 16, 2025
Myrna Bruner Hinson, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Alamo, Georgia on July 16, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born and raised in Jakin, Georgia, in Early County, Myrna's life was a testament to grace, generosity, and lifelong learning.
A proud graduate of Jakin High School's Class of 1956, Myrna's academic journey led her to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College before earning her degree in Home Economics from the University of Georgia in Athens, a place she held dear, always cheering "Go Dawgs!" Her passion for learning continued as she obtained her Masters in Reading and Language Arts Instruction from Northwestern State University in Louisiana, and coming full circle, completed her Leadership Certificate at the University of Georgia. Myrna's belief in the power of education was a cornerstone of her philosophy, and she inspired many with her conviction that one is never too old to learn something new.
Myrna's professional life was marked by a remarkable 44-year tenure in the field of education. She served with distinction as a Home Economics Teacher, Reading Specialist, Reading Consultant, Language Arts Coordinator, and Professional Learning Consultant. Her career took her across seven states-California, Texas, Louisiana, Virginia, North Carolina, Mississippi, and Georgia-yet her heart remained firmly rooted in her beloved home state of Georgia where she met her beloved husband, Charles E. Hinson, while she was teaching and he was attending UGA. Their love story blossomed into a marriage in 1961, following a year of courtship.
Myrna's life was centered around family, faith, and service. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, Jim Hinson; daughter, Sherri Hamilton (Doug); granddaughters, Brittany Booth (Tyler), Anna Ladner (Rustin), and Sara Adame (Reina); and great-grandchildren, Payton, Isla, Nora, and Wyatt Booth. She also leaves behind cherished nieces and nephews, whose lives she touched deeply. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Hinson, her parents Byron and Ruby Bruner, and her brothers Ronald and Shelton Bruner.
Her passions included sewing, reading, and spending time with loved ones. She was an avid 4-H member in her youth and earned a college scholarship through the program. Myrna's commitment to service extended to her church life as well. Though raised Baptist, she became a devoted member of the Methodist Church after marriage, serving in numerous roles including Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Coordinator, Worship Committee Chair, and MYF Counselor.
Remembered for her kindness, patience, and unwavering belief in the goodness of others, Myrna moved through life with a rare empathy. She had the unique ability to make people feel seen, heard, and loved. Her quiet grace became her legacy, living on in the countless lives she enriched through her teaching, her faith, and her love.
A memorial service to celebrate Myrna's life will be held at McRae Methodist Church on Monday, July 21 at 11:00 A.M., with Rev. Jimbo Dominey officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in McRae. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to McRae Methodist Church, 1 College St., McRae-Helena, GA 31055.
