In Loving Memory of Myron John Johs (1956–2025)
Myron John Johs, age 69, of Lisbon, North Dakota, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on August 30, 2025 Born on February 10, 1956, in Napoleon, North Dakota, Myron was the youngest son of Andrew and Mary Ann (Schmidt) Johs. From his earliest days in Napoleon, Myron's fun, youthful spirit, and love for community were unmistakable.
A proud graduate of Napoleon High School, Myron found joy on the football field and carried that passion to North Dakota State University (NDSU), where he majored in Agriculture Education and became a lifelong supporter of Bison athletics. His devotion to Bison football was legendary-he rarely missed a game and held season tickets for years, tailgated with his friends when he was able and celebrated the many Bison victories over the years.
After college, Myron dedicated his life to teaching Vocational Agriculture at Lisbon High School, where he also served as the Future Farmers of America (FFA) advisor. His impact on generations of students was profound. He guided them through local, state and national FFA contests and conferences, celebrated their victories, and took immense pride in their growth. His classroom was more than a place of learning-it was a space of mentorship, encouragement, and community.
Outside the classroom, Myron was the voice of Lisbon Bronco sporting events, announcing games with the same passion he brought to teaching. He loved small-town life and embraced Lisbon as his true home. Whether at Lisbon Cardiac Rehab, Lisbon Senior Citizens Center, at a rummage sale, a card game, or a family gathering, Myron's presence lit up the room. He never met a stranger-just future friends.
Despite facing significant health challenges, Myron met each one with grace and optimism. In 2010, he received the life-changing gift of a pancreas and kidney transplant, which gave him 15 more vibrant years. He lived those years fully, with gratitude and joy.
Myron was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Mary Ann (Schmidt) Johs; siblings Leo, Martin, and Viola (Chris) Leier; sister-in-law Judy (Joe) Johs; nephew Patrick Leier; and great-great nephew Asher Sorrels.
He is survived by his brothers Hilbert (Kathleen), Perry (Carol), Joe, and Al (Mary) Johs; sister Sally (Jerry) Feist; brother-in-law Chris Leier; and a large, loving extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
The Johs family extends heartfelt thanks to the many healthcare professionals who cared for Myron including, his Lisbon friends and neighbors, and the compassionate staff from the Lisbon Healthcare Community, Lisbon Senior Center, Edgewood Senior Living in Fargo, and Sanford Medical Center.
Myron's legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the students he inspired, and the community he cherished. His voice may be silent, but his spirit echoes in the halls of Lisbon High, the roar of Bison fans, and the hearts of all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Lisbon.
