Nadine H. Heitzenrater, age 98, passed away Wednesday, March 5th, 2025, at the LECOM Senior Living Center in Erie, her residence for the past 38 months. She was surrounded by her immediate family as she peacefully slipped away. She was born in the small town of Greensboro, Cumberland Twp, Green Co. Pa. on December 4, 1926, to the late Chester and Dortha (Miller) Romesburg.
Nadine graduated Erie Technical High School in the June class of 1946 with a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Cooperative Merchandising Certificate. She was employed by S.S. Kresge Five & Dime Department Store, the Den Restaurant and Clark’s Restaurant in Erie. Later in life she worked at Byrd Plastics Co. and subsequently became the banquet cook at the German Cultural Society (GCS Club) for many years.
Nadine was active, competitive and very proud of her bowling, golf and bocce league awards and accomplishments.
She is survived by her children, David L Heitzenrater, Terri J Schepis (Peter), and Scott E. Heitzenrater, her grandchildren Haley Chase (Clint), Rachel Burns (Gary), Sara Schepis, and by her great grandchildren, Anthony Schepis, Gabrielle Schepis- Huntley, Joseph Burns, and Nicholas Burns. Nadine is further survived by her brother, John Romesburg.
Her loving husband of 44 years, Richard Scott Heitzenrater, passed away in 1991 leaving her a widow for an endless 34 years. Fellow widows and close friends, Mary Hannold and Bette Dunagan helped guide her through this lonely period, sadly preceding her in death.
Also preceding her in death were brothers, Robert Romesburg, Paul Romesberg, her daughter-in-law Sarah Franke Heitzenrater, sister-in-law Joyce (Pude) Romesburg and two grandchildren, Danielle Heitzenrater, and Tony Schepis.
We gratefully thank Lesia & Gerry Stone for their love and support as friends and consistent caregivers as well as all of the numerous professional caregivers who served over the past five years, especially those from LECOM SLC 5th floor.
