Bradley James "Brad/BJ" Benson
Bradley James "Brad/BJ" Benson, 52, of Erie, Pennsylvania, passed away on August 26, 2025. Born on March 6, 1973, in Jamestown, New York, Brad lived a life defined by service, love, and an unforgettable spirit.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Brad served as a combat medic-an early reflection of his lifelong commitment to helping others. That dedication continued throughout his civilian life as he worked as an EMT, bringing care and calm to those in crisis. His selflessness and compassion were not just part of his profession-they were the foundation of who he was.
To those who knew him best, Brad was more than just a caregiver or serviceman; he was the heart of the family. He is survived by his beloved wife Christine Benson; his children Brady Benson, Allen Benson, and Alyssa Benson; his sisters Brenda Wiler and Beth Greenway; and his brother Alan Benson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Nancy Benson.
Brad's family will remember him as the world's best dad-a title he wore with pride and purpose. He never missed an opportunity to tell his children how proud he was of them. His philosophy was simple but powerful: he didn't expect perfection-only that they gave their very best. That message became a guiding light for those lucky enough to call him Dad. He took immense pride in being a father. Whether it was cheering from the sidelines or offering quiet words of encouragement during life's challenges, Brad's love for his kids was constant and unconditional.
Depending on your place in his life, you may have known him as Brad, Uncle BJ, or simply Dad. No matter the name you used, you knew someone incredibly special-someone who made every moment count. As an uncle, he was legendary: building forts out of blankets and chairs, inviting kids along for pizza-and-wing runs. If you were lucky enough to get the front seat, you knew that you were risking it all as he would be trying to grab your knee the whole way there and back.
Brad had a one-of-a-kind personality-equal parts stubborn determination and boundless warmth. "Dad's way or no way" wasn't just a saying; it was a badge of honor that came with lessons learned through laughter (and sometimes colorful language) during home improvement projects that always ended with what the family lovingly called a "Dad Fix." It may not always have been right, but it was "fixed".
He found joy in the outdoors-hunting, fishing, shooting-and shared that passion freely with those around him. Whether it was casting a line or sitting quietly in nature's stillness, Brad embraced these moments as opportunities to connect with loved ones and create lasting memories.
Today the world lost someone incredibly special. May Bradley James "Brad/BJ" Benson's memory bring comfort to all who knew him-and may we carry forward his example of compassion, strength, and boundless love.
