Kim Kupniewski, age 72, of Erie, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at UPMC Hamot.
Born in Erie on June 15, 1953, he was the son of the late Chester and Audrey Anthony Kupniewski.
A 1971 graduate of Cathedral Prep, Kim received a bachelor's degree from Mercyhurst University in 1978.
As a golf professional, he served as the director of golf at Downing Golf Course for 25 years and later worked at Whispering Woods. Kim helped direct the City of Erie junior golf program from its inception and served as an assistant at the Kahkwa Club. He served as tournament director for the EDGA Match Play for 10 years and was runner-up to Harry Boback Jr. in the inaugural Match Play Tournament in 1973. Kim competed in the World Junior Golf Tournament in Miami and was inducted into the Mercyhurst Sport and EDGA Hall of Fames. His dedication, love, and expert teaching ability helped hundreds of golfers improve their game, leading him to McDowell High School, where he served as head golf coach.
Kim was a down-to-earth individual with a genuine personality, who enjoyed meeting with his morning breakfast group at McDonald's and his golf friends at the Madison Ohio Country Club every Tuesday. He was also a passionate steelhead fisherman.
In addition to his parents, Kim was preceded in death by his brother, Chuck Kupniewski.
Surviving him are his loving wife, Cathy (Birds); two sons, Sonny (Amanda) and Bob; two grandchildren, Lucca and Siena; and a sister, Julie (Fred) Hutchinson. The family extends their gratitude to the overflowing support and love.
No services will be held at this time. Arrangements are under the care of Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Inc., West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th Street, Erie, PA 16506.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kim Kupniewski Memorial Fund in care of the Funeral Home.
