Nanay Delia was born on April 16, 1942, in the Philippines. She was the 4th of 6 Miranda siblings. Her life was defined with hard work, discipline, dedication to family, and her passion for sharing the message of salvation.
Nanay Delia lost her father when she was 6 years old, so she and her siblings became market vendors to help support the family. She strived hard finishing high school early and took on more work to help raise her siblings. In her college years, she lost her hearing on her right ear with mastoidectomy from an ear infection. Despite her challenges, she continued to work hard and graduated at the University of the East in the Philippines in 1963 with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
In 1967, she got married to Tatay Gil and had 5 children: Gerry, Deena, Dennis, Gene and Gomer. In the 1970's she lost her youngest daughter Dennis with a suppurative bacterial meningitis and her oldest daughter Deena with kidney failure. Through her tragedy, she discovered her faith in God and her sacrifices became the testament of her salvation. From then on, she dedicated her life to sharing the Word of God to others as her faith grew stronger.
She worked for JUSMAG (Joint U.S. Military Assistance Group) in the Philippines, climbing her way to the top as a Senior Budget Analyst Officer, which helped her family migrate to the USA in 1986. They settled in Chicago and she worked tirelessly to give her children a better future, seeing Gerry graduate from UIC, Gene serve in the U.S. Navy, and Gomer graduate from DeVry.
At 65, she and Tatay Gil moved to Jacksonville, Florida to enjoy their retirement. Despite her health struggles being a diabetic and ongoing dialysis after a multiple-bypass heart surgery, she never lost her faith or love for family. In 2021, they moved to Virginia, spending her last few years with Gomer's family.
Nanay Delia's life was one of strength, sacrifice, and solid faith. She faced numerous hardships, yet she never stopped giving, loving, and believing. Her legacy of faith and love will live on in all who were blessed to know her. Rest in peace, Nanay Delia. Your love, wisdom, and unwavering faith will never be forgotten.
