Nancy Marie (Moore) DeFelice passed away peacefully on September 24, 2023, following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease with her daughter by her side. She was 78 years old.
She was born on December 27, 1944 to the late Cleveland Grover Moore and Katie Emma Walls Moore in Smyrna, DE.
Nancy graduated from Smyrna High School in 1962. She began working at the Delaware Home & Hospital for the Chronically Ill during high school where she developed her passion of caring for others. Nancy continued working there while attending school at Peninsula General Hospital in Salisbury, MD to become a Registered Nurse. Nancy graduated from Peninsula General Hospital in 1966.
Nancy began her nursing career at Peninsula General Hospital after her graduation where she worked as a nurse for many years. She then went to Deer's Head Hospital Center in Salisbury, MD, where she was a nurse in the kidney dialysis unit. She remained at Deer's Head Hospital Center until her retirement.
Nancy's natural gift was always serving people, which was exemplified through mentoring many nurses, sharing the wisdom she gained over the years. She was very conscientious in serving her patients with dignity, respect and true compassion.
Nancy was married to Daniel (Danny) DeFelice for 37 years until Danny's passing in 2017. Nancy and Danny always enjoyed spending their time together, which included traveling, bowling, and fishing. Golfing was a big part of their life during retirement where Danny taught Nancy how to play and helping her became a very competitive golfer. They were both active members at Seaford Golf & Country Club.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Sondra Lathbury and stepson Scott DeFelice. She is also survived by her loving brother and best friend Walter Moore (JoAnn) and brother Raymond Moore (Barbara). Nancy's special sister-in-law Eleanor Moore and niece Gale Moore Bucher were there for Nancy during her long illness. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as two long time friends Sondra Lucas and Vicki Cool.
Nancy was predeceased by her brothers Robert Moore and Cleveland Lee Moore, and her sister, Doris Moore Ross.
The family would like to thank the nurses and aides at the John B. Parson Assisted Living Community in Salisbury, MD for all the care they provided Nancy over the past several years.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at 11am, where friends may call at 10:30 am in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street, Smyrna, DE 19977 with internment immediately following at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna, DE.
