Nancy Durose passed away on July 14, 2023, at Life Care Center, where she had been admitted a few weeks earlier for a serious fall in her home. She was married to her husband, Richard, for 63 years, and is the mother of three, Steve, Carrie, and Doug, and the grandmother of three.
Nancy and family lived in Dayton, Ohio, and Orlando, Florida, before settling down in Hendersonville in 2004. In Dayton, she owned outdoor-indoor tennis courts and she ran several regional tennis tournaments for kids. In 1980, Nancy was on the team that won the National Championship of the Michelob Light Challenge. In Orlando, she was the Director for Camp Thunderbird, a summer camp for mentally challenged individuals. At Hendersonville Country Club, she traded her tennis for golf and bridge due to failing knees.
In 1959, Richard and Nancy were permitted to choose one song of the many that were played at their wedding. They picked Till There Was You, from the Broadway play Music Man. Richard is planning to request that song this week to the local radio station. If anyone else wishes to request the song on the radio this week the family would love to hear it played.
The family plans a memorial remembrance for Nancy at a family gathering later this year and suggests memorial donations to MemoryCare in Asheville for those who wish to do so.
