Nancy Jean Ferguson, a cherished soul known affectionately as Nancy to her friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, in her hometown of Evansville, the same place where her story began on June 9, 1948. Nancy's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and service, woven with the threads of family, faith, and community.
Nancy's journey through life was shared with her beloved husband of 57 years, Gary Ferguson, who stood by her as a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they raised two loving children, Abbey James (married to Dennis) and Kelly Clark (married to Kevin), who were Nancy's pride and joy. Her role as Nana to her adoring grandchildren-Gabrielle James, Isabelle James, Madeline Clark, and Keaton Clark-was one she embraced with every ounce of her being, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories and life lessons.
Preceded in death by her parents, Wilma Ricamore and John Rudolf Werderman, and her siblings, John Werderman Jr., Timothy Werderman, Patricia Hunt, and Francis Mitchell, Nancy's memory will be kept alive by her surviving brothers George and William Werderman, her sister Wilma Siedlarz, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who were touched by her kindness and spirited nature.
A proud graduate of Bosse High School's Class of 1966, Nancy's passion for helping others led her to a fulfilling career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). In a heartwarming twist of fate, she graduated from nursing school alongside her daughter Abbey, a moment that encapsulated her commitment to both her profession and her family.
Nancy's faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was a devoted member of St. Mary's Parish, where she found strength and solace in her community. Her interests were a reflection of her nurturing spirit; she found joy in knitting and crochet, creating warm and lovingly crafted pieces for those she cared about. An avid reader, Nancy's thirst for knowledge and love for stories was insatiable. She also enjoyed playing cards, a pastime that brought laughter and camaraderie into her home.
Those who knew Nancy will remember her for the love she had for her family, which was paramount above all else. Her warmth, generosity, and the gentle guidance she provided will be deeply missed, but the impact she made on the lives of those around her will continue to resonate.
As we bid farewell to Nancy Jean Ferguson, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and grace. Her spirit, a beacon of love and kindness, will forever illuminate the paths of those she has left behind. Nancy's legacy is one of compassion, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her loved ones-a legacy that will be cherished and honored for generations to come.
Nancy's life will be commemorated in a service that reflects the richness of her spirit and the depth of her faith. As we gather to honor her memory, we take solace in the knowledge that her journey has been a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived, and the enduring power of love.
