Nancy (Nan) R. Fosdick Age 82, of Medfield MA, passed away peacefully on June 1st, 2025 at her home with her daughters by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Stephen W. Fosdick, mother to her cherished daughters, Amy Elizabeth Fosdick and Sarah F. Cohen, mother-in-law to Scott A. Cohen; grandmother affectionately known as "NanNan" to adored grandchildren Maxwell and Julia. The oldest sister to Mark Rowell (and wife Sherry), Wendy McDonough (and husband Ed) and Lynn Gudmand (and husband Peter). Sister in law to Ginny Stevenson and beloved Aunt and Great Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Loved by all who knew her, Nan was born in Massachusetts and also lived in Vermont and Connecticut. She attended Vermont College where she developed a lifelong affinity for Montpelier. After moving back to Connecticut Nan worked at Hamilton Standard, where she met Steve Fosdick. They married in 1969 spending 55 years paired as a team. Together they raised a loving, close family, started several small companies, and in their later years spread their love even further by welcoming retired greyhounds into their lives.
In the 1980's and 1990's, Nan could be seen speed walking with her dearest friend around the block, planting iris and grape hyacinth in her gardens or pruning her flowering cherry tree. Nan was an avid gardener with a green thumb like her mother and grandmother. Her favorite flower (Lily's of the Valley) spread from a small patch, to the entire front garden which left a delicious scent in the air as you walked up to the house in the middle of May.
Nan always put her family first and was happiest when preparing for a holiday celebration or special meal for her children, grandchildren, siblings and extended family. She had an incredible knack for turning her house into a cozy and loving home with delicious New England dinners (especially her famous Boston Baked Beans or Chicken Divan). Nan made lifelong friends who appreciated how she was quick to laugh or to share her wonderful dry sense of humor. She treasured her family, friends, her coffee, and her greyhounds. She will be remembered with love for her undeniable wit, kind nature, her strength, grace and determination that were with her through her final days.
Memorial Services will be Saturday July 19th at 11:00am at the United Church of Christ in Medfield.
With gratitude to Good Shepherd Hospice and specifically nurse Katie whose knowledge and compassion for both Nan and Steve provided incredibly supportive in home care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice https://gscommunitycare.org/Donate
