Nancy Fuchs, 91, of Edison, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024 in Wall, NJ.
She was born on February 24, 1933 in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Henry Zimmer and Eleanore Coffey. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Niagara Falls in 1951.
Nancy and her late husband, Otto, met in 1956 and they were married that same year. During their first few years of marriage they resided in Tonawanda, NY, Hamden, CT, and Rochester, NY. They moved to New Jersey in 1965.
Nancy inherited her gift of music from her father and sang in church choirs wherever she lived. She was a long time parishioner of St. Helena's Catholic Church in Edison and volunteered as a member of their Altar Society. Nancy volunteered at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield until the hospital closed. She was a member of the PTA's of Oak Tree School and Martin Luther King, Jr. School while her children attended those schools. Nancy was an avid gardener, and as a member of the South Plainfield Terra Nova Garden Club she won awards for her floral designs. Nancy enjoyed reading and in her later years she worked at the North Edison Branch Library. She had a knack for writing letters to friends and family and the letters will be remembered as real life conversations.
Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Otto Fuchs, who passed in 2002. They had been married for 46 years.
She is survived by her siblings: Richard Zimmer of Rochester, NY Janet Brydges of Fairport, NY, Carol Rich (Jim) of Cleveland, OH, her children: Robert Fuchs (Laurie) of Delaware Township, NJ, Katherine Leslie of Montclair, NJ, Thomas Fuchs (Maggie) of Egg Harbor City, NJ, Kristine Bobowsky (Ted) of Point Pleasant, NJ, Richard Fuchs (Beth) of Byram, NJ, and Steven Fuchs (Lisa) of Mullica Hill, NJ, grandchildren: Theodore Bobowsky (Jen), Michelle Smith (Matt), Jennifer Leslie Mapes (Brad), Christine Leslie, Lily Fuchs, Ryan Fuchs, Bridget Fuchs, and her great-grandchildren: Lilah Smith, Kenzie Smith, and Peyton Bobowsky and 12 beloved nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave. Metuchen.. A prayer service will begin at 2:00pm at the funeral home.
