Nancy Joyce Gravitt, 82, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at St. Anne's Place in Rockford, Illinois.
The former Nancy Joyce Van Vuren was born on Tuesday, December 16, 1941, in South Holland, Illinois, the daughter of George Albert and Johanna (Jabaay) Van Vuren.
When Nancy was four years old, she and her parents moved from South Holland, Illinois to Moline, Illinois. She graduated from Moline High School in 1959. While in college Nancy met and won the heart of Carl Jerald Gravitt. They were married on September 6, 1961, in Rock Island, Illinois. Carl preceded her in death on Friday, May 22, 2015.
While living in the Quad Cities, Nancy worked as an Electrocardiogram Technician at Moline Public Hospital. In 1971, Nancy, Carl and their two sons moved to Rockford, Illinois. After raising her sons, Nancy worked for several years at Wholesale Veterinary Supply in Rockford, Illinois and later as a dental assistant for Dr. Joseph Zakarija in Rockford, Illinois.
Nancy was a former member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Rockford, Illinois, and Riverside Community Church in Machesney Park, Illinois. She enjoyed golfing, playing tennis, getting together monthly with her ladies' card club, couples potluck club, and traveling. Nancy was an accomplished fisherman and loved spending every moment she could fishing in the Northwoods of Wisconsin and Lake Geneva. Nancy was happiest when she was around her family and friends, but she truly lived for and loved her grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by her sons, Christopher Gravitt, and Jay (Lindsay Healless) Gravitt; grandchildren, Connor Gravitt, and Jyllian Gravitt and their mother Kelly Gravitt, Henry Healless, Carter Fridly, Carlee Fridly, and Katy Fridly; niece, Michele (Michael) Dorbeck of Milan, Illinois; nephew, Daniel (Gina) Bradley of Milan, Illinois; along with several cousins, and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Johanna Van Vuren; husband, Carl Gravitt; father and mother-in-law, Carl and Mildred Gravitt; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marcia and Danny J. Bradley.
Memorial services are 12:00 p.m., Friday, October 25, 2024, at Riverside Community Church, 6816 North 2nd Street, Machesney Park, Illinois 61115 with Pastor Bobby Sheets officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Hansen-Gravitt Funeral Home, 424 Prospect Street, Beloit, Wisconsin is handling the arrangements.
