Nancy Jean Murtaugh (nee Sternad), age 86, of Elyria, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center.
She was born on February 25, 1938, in Lakewood, a graduate of Fairview High School, where she was a baton twirler and the head majorette, and has been a resident of Elyria for the past 5 years, moving from North Ridgeville, Rocky River and Fairview Park. Nancy worked as a physician's and dental assistant for the Fairview Physician Center. She and her husband were very active members at the Rocky River Presbyterian Church and she was most recently a member at Fields United Methodist Church in North Ridgeville. She was also a past member of the Junior Women's Club. Nancy's greatest joy was found in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 67 years, Kenneth; son Donald Murtaugh; daughter Laurie Falcone; grandchildren Kevin (Alexandria) Unger, Gage (Allison) Falcone, Karli Falcone, Megan (Brendan) Zvoncheck, Sara Murtaugh and Bradley Murtaugh; great grandchildren Carson Falcone and Lucy Zvoncheck; brother Ralph (Ruth) Gross; many nieces, nephews and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Sternad and Nora (nee Sharp) Gross; brothers Gerald (Marie) Sternad and Charles (Florence) Gross.
A memorial service for Nancy will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Fields United Methodist Church, 34077 Lorain Road, North Ridgeville. Rev. Sondra Snode will officiate. Inurnment will be in Lakewood Park Cemetery, Rocky River, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Nancy's name to Fields United Methodist Church, 34077 Lorain Road, North Ridgeville 44039 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
