She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and community service. Born in Fort Scott, Kansas on March 8, 1943, Nancy was the daughter of Eugene Seitz and Charlotte Louise Edgar.
Raised on her family's farm, Nancy learned the value of hard work early in life and developed a passion for fishing that she carried with her always. At the age of 12, she met Larry Nickell, the love of her life, and the two were later married on June 2, 1961. Their journey together began in Fort Scott, but soon took them to Drexel, Missouri, where they built a home and a life together for the past 63 years.
Nancy's dedication to her family and her work was unparalleled. As the Head Teller at Bank 10, she skillfully managed operations, embodying the very essence of dedication and professionalism. Her ability to balance a demanding career while nurturing her family is a testament to her strength and love.
Outside of her professional life, Nancy was known for her culinary talents, delighting family and friends with her delicious blackberry cobbler, German Chocolate Cake and homemade noodles. She was a fixture at her children's and grandchildren's events, including sporting games, art shows, music concerts, and graduations, just to name a few. Her unwavering support and enthusiasm for her family's achievements were an inspiration to all who knew her. She could always be spotted in her fashionable attire, beautiful jewelry, and perfectly maintained nails and hair!
Nancy was an active and proud member of the Drexel community. She engaged wholeheartedly with local organizations, including being the President of the Senior Homes, her monthly bunco group and the Red Hatter community. Her kindness and genuine interest in others fostered deep and lasting friendships wherever she went.
Nancy's greatest joy and accomplishment was her family. Her husband Larry affectionately called her the "Captain of the ship," a role she embraced with grace and love.
Although she is no longer with us, her spirit will continue to guide and support her loved ones through every phase of life.
Nancy was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Seitz; mother, Charlotte Louise Amer; brother, Bobby Seitz; and sisters Janet Hansen and Linda Klein. She is survived by her devoted husband, Larry Nickell Sr.; daughters Terry Owens (John) and Laurie Webb (Trent); son Larry Nickell Jr. (Lori); and her cherished grandchildren Ryan, Lauren (Bryan), Emily, Truman, Lydia, Ava, and Matthew. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Wyatt, Evelyn, Noah, and Logan; her sister Connie Greenfield; brother-in-law Rick Hansen (Linda); and a host of extended family and friends.
Nancy Nickell will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered for her boundless love, unwavering dedication, and the countless ways she touched the lives of those around her.
