Nancy Lee Peterson Scudder, a beacon of warmth and kindness, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, at the age of 84 in Tyler, Texas. Born on February 5, 1941, in Brookings, South Dakota, Nancy was a cherished daughter to the late Webber and Josaphine Walker Peterson. She was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and friend who left a legacy of love and caring that will continue to resonate with all who knew her.
Nancy, graduated from Washington Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia. Her nurturing spirit led her to a fulfilling career where she touched many lives as a long-time employee of the Fairfax County School District, serving as a special needs school bus aide. Her dedication to those with cognitive delays extended beyond her professional life as she also worked as a home mentor at Gabriel Homes, providing guidance and support to adults in need.
Nancy's life was marked by her unwavering love for family, which guided her through the challenges of life, including the loss of her husband, Charles Scudder, her dear brother Carl "Pete" Peterson, her loving daughters Robin Marie, and Sharon Raithel as well as her cherished family members, brother-in-law Ralph Werley and nephew Jeff Santilli.
Despite these losses, Nancy's heart remained full of love for her surviving family. She was a proud sister to Michelle Werley (nephew Ken Santilli and family), an adoring mother to Charlotte Motes, married to Richard, and Robin Rowan, married to Justin, and son-in-law Tim Raithel. Her grandchildren, Jennifer, Rachel, Seth, Rebekah, and Caleb, were the light of her life, and she reveled in their accomplishments and activities.
Nancy's zest for life was evident in her hobbies. She loved walking, was an avid dominoes player and puzzle enthusiast, always ready for a game or a challenge. Her presence was a source of joy at family and friend's gatherings, where her laughter and kindness filled the room. She particularly enjoyed her time with her special friend Phil, her neighbors, and her domino's crew.
Those who were fortunate enough to have known Nancy will remember her as a kind, loving, and thoughtful individual. She had a unique ability to make each person feel special and valued, a trait that endeared her to many. Her gentle spirit and compassionate nature were the hallmarks of her character, leaving an indelible impression on the hearts of her family and friends.
Nancy's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the importance of family.
