Nancy Lou Short, age 87 of Mansfield and formerly of Marion, passed away Friday, October 18, 2024 at The Waterford at Mansfield.
Nancy was born May 17, 1937 in Tiffin, the daughter of C. Richard and M. Kathryn (Shumaker) Shiley. She was a graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School. Nancy earned her nursing degree from Flower Hospital in Toledo and worked in the nursing field for a number of years. Nancy returned to school, receiving her Bachelor in Education from Heidelberg University and Masters in Education from Bowling Green State University. Nancy's true calling was that of being an educator, and she devoted her life to that passion. She taught in elementary classrooms at numerous schools. She went on to become the curriculum coordinator and State Title 1 Facilitator. Nancy was a proud member and Hall of Fame inductee for the International Reading Association.
Nancy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School for decades. She was an avid reader and bird watcher. Gardening was also a favorite pastime for her. Above all, Nancy was devoted to her family, and she cherished time together, especially time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren; attending their activities brought her such joy.
She is survived by her children: Stephen (Laura) Short, Sue (Bob) Snyder and Scott (Pei-Chin Andrews) Short; grandchildren: Matthew Short, Nathan (Amanda) Short, Kate Snyder, and Kelsey Snyder; great grandchildren: Abigail, Madison, Molly, and Taylor Short; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph "Joe" S. Short; and her brother James "Jim' (Nancy) Shiley.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 9, 2024, First Presbyterian Church, 143 S. Prospect St., Marion, from 3PM to 5PM; Memorial service will follow at 5PM. Burial will be held privately in Marion Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stephen J. Short Scholarship fund, c/o Community Foundation of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 1 South Main Street, Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
The family would like to thank the staff at Magnolia Trails for their loving care of Nancy.
