Nancy Talbot Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Campbell Funeral Home - Gloucester on Sep. 23, 2022.
Nancy Jane (Bowen) Talbot. Born in Waltham on September 14, 1931 and died in Rockport on September 10, 2022, four days shy of her 91st birthday. Nancy started school in a one room schoolhouse in New Salem, MA and would gladly share stories of growing up during WWII in a small rural town. She graduated from Pepperell High School in 1949. She went on to attended Bouve College and Tufts, graduating in 1953. There she met her husband Edward Talbot.
Nancy and Ward were married on October 8, 1955 and moved to Middletown, RI and then Newport, where Ward was stationed in the Navy. Their daughter Gail was born April 2, 1961 and Ward became a math teacher and head football coach for Roger's High School.
During her life, Nancy worked as an airline stewardess (until they would not let her come home for the summer), a lunch monitor, and her happiest years as a waitress at the Newport Creamery.
Beyond her family, Nancy had two great loves in her life, sports and Long Beach.
Nancy played basketball all through high school, majored in it in college, and went on to play in semi pro teams who traveled throughout New England. She also played in softball leagues. She learned to ski in her 60s and kept score for the Rockport Boy's Little League and high school baseball teams for many years where she made friends with everyone. For many years she was the unofficial line judge at the Long Beach Tennis Courts. Nancy also loved the Red Sox (and was very unhappy when they lost!)
But beyond sports was her love of Long Beach. In 1938, Nancy's father purchased the dance hall on Long Beach to help his daughters escape the polio epidemic. From that time on, she spent every summer on the beach swimming, playing tennis and having a wonderful time. She and Ward moved to the cottage full time following his retirement where she served for many many years as the Treasurer of the Long Beach Association.
Nancy is predeceased by her parents, David and Edith Bowen and her sister, Sally Olson. Nancy is survived by her husband Ward Talbot; her daughter, Gail Haskell; grandchildren David D'Angelo and wife Kellie, Brian D'Angelo and his wife Kelsey, Laura Watson and her husband Topher. There are six great-grandchildren between them. Also niece, Cheryl Olson, great nieces, Alexis Hendershot and Anastasia Lima and her former son in law Sal D'Angelo and his wife Diane.
A funeral service will be held at the Campbell Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester on Monday, September 19, 2022 at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial in Locust Grove Cemetery, Gloucester/Rockport line. A visiting hour will be held prior to the service on Monday from 10-11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930. Information, directions, condolences at www.campbellfuneral.com
