Naomi Gray Decker Brown passed into the arms of Jesus on March 7,2025 at the age of 90. Naomi lived a full and joyous life of serving those she loved and spreading the love of Christ to all she encountered. She lived her 90 years in Ashtabula Ohio, Orlando Florida and Versailles Kentucky. She was the beloved aunt of Tim Crook from Versailles.
Naomi is survived by a son, Bradley Decker (Janine Coppola), 2 granddaughters, a brother, Clair Gray, and multiple nieces and nephews. Naomi was predeceased by her first husband, Robert Decker, her second husband, Donald Brown. 3 sisters, Lena Crook, Erma Osborne, and Ruth Solon also preceded her in death. She will also be missed by her step-daughters Kerry, Wendy and Donna, who selflessly helped care for both Don and Naomi for 8 years, mostly long distance.
Naomi was a devoted wife and, with her husband, Bob, supported and encouraged their son Brad as he pursued and mastered biking competitively (and at age 65, he still does so today). She loved children and shared that love in the schools and churches throughout her career and life. After graduating from Byesville High School in Byesville, OH, she obtained a B.S. from Muskingum College and an M.A. from Kent State University.
She was a self-taught musician after one lesson from her sister and played the organ and piano in most of the churches she attended. She also led Bible Studies and volunteered in many other ways.
In Florida, she and Bob worked various jobs with her sister Erma's family, including time at Disney World. She and Bob enjoyed making many new friends, several with whom she had continued to stay in contact until just days before her death. After Bob's long illness and subsequent passing, she was blessed to meet Don with whom she would enjoy 21 years of marriage. They were an energetic, active and caring couple who loved each other and others well. She survived only 8 months after his death.
Naomi's story on earth is complete, but she lives on in the minds and hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for Saturday, July 12, 2025, to be held at Lake Shore Park, 1700 East First Street, Ashtabula, Ohio at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the building fund of Wesley Covenant Fellowship, P.O. Box 1381, Versailles, KY, 40383 or a Hospice Care of your choice.
