Naomi Ruth Wilcox Butner, age 78, of Hurdle Mills, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was a native of Mountain City, TN, and was the daughter of the late William Taft Wilcox and Selma Elizabeth Warren Wilcox. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Butner; sisters, Ola Mae, Della, Mary Lee, Maxie, Peanut, Ilene and brothers John, Edd, J.B., her daughter, Shannon, and granddaughter Jaden.
Naomi and her husband Robert worked at the Daniel Boone Ice Rink and Amusement Park for several years before opening a couple of eating establishments in Hillsborough, the Coffee Shop and Naomi's Grill, where they were known for making the best homemade hot dog chili. They also ran Butner Antiques for several years. One of her most treasured memories while working at the amusement park was when she met Lorretta Lynn who was performing at the Daniel Boone Amphitheatre in the 1970's. She loved to do wordsearch puzzles, planting her flowers and gardening and watching Steve Harvey on Family Feud. As a little girl, she attended Calvary Baptist Church in Mountain City and New Life Independent Baptist Church in Hurdle Mills until her stroke in 2015.
Surviving are her children and families, Duane Butner (Darlene), Monica Butner; brother Rob Wilcox (Jenna Lee) and sister Carolyn Higginbotham, grandchildren, D. Aaron Butner (Sarah), Bryson Butner (Anna), Jordan Butner (Jessie) Daylon Duke (Daylon) Caden Britt, and Layton Dollar, Step-grandchildren, Adam Carden, Dustin Carden (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Alivia Butner, Addison Butner, Finley Butner, Bennett Butner, Millie Butner; step-great-grandchildren Julia Carden, Nate Carden, several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 3PM Sunday, March 24, 2024 at the Johnson Cemetery on Cold Springs Rd., Mountain City, TN. by Pastor Rick Thomason and Pastor Steven Spencer. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you for all the prayers, visits and calls from family and friends during this time and also to The Hurdle Mills, Volunteer Fire Dept., and Amedisys Hospice for all their help.
