Naomi J. Di Grazia, 96, passed away peacefully at home in Santa Rosa on August 14, 2025. Surrounded by family and love in her final days, she departed with the same grace and warmth that defined her life.
Born at Ross General Hospital in Marin County, Naomi was the daughter of Col. Robert E. Eklund and Nellie Namaid "Mae" Eklund. She grew up in San Rafael with siblings Carol and Robert "Bob," both of whom preceded her in death. During her school years, Naomi was drawn to the Arts and was a member of the Audubon Club, Job's Daughters and Order of the Eastern Star. She graduated from San Rafael High School, where Naomi met her future husband, Albert C. Di Grazia Jr. They married in 1954 in Carmel-by-the-Sea and shared nearly 60 devoted years together before Albert's passing in 2012.
Before starting a family, Naomi attended professional modeling school, worked as a fashion model, a receptionist and a bookkeeper in San Francisco. She attended Marin Junior College and later studied painting-working in acrylics, oils, and watercolors-and generously shared her artwork with loved ones. She and Albert enjoyed traveling; Italy, Scandinavia, and Canada were some of their favorites.
After Albert's passing, Naomi remained in their Sonoma Valley home until age 92, then moved to Santa Rosa to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She continued to enjoy gardening, reading, puzzles, scenic drives, cooking, and time with family and friends. Naomi had a dedicated spiritual path guided by the teachings of Unity.
Naomi was the heart of her family-a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her gentle spirit, quick wit, and kindness touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her son David Di Grazia; daughter Diane Di Grazia Basso; son-in-law Ronald Basso; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her son Craig and husband Albert.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring, when her favorite flowers are in bloom, following her wishes.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Hospice Sonoma County for their compassionate care. In honor of Naomi's life, donations may be made to Providence Hospice Sonoma County.
