Neil Arthur Johnson, born on April 11th, 1955, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away suddenly on May 21st, 2024. Born and raised in Minneapolis to his loving parents, Norita and Arthur Johnson, Neil's sense of duty and adventure led him to serve his country in the United States Navy from 1975 to 1979. Serving on the USS Constellation, he exemplified honor and valor, serving his country with distinction and earning the respect of his fellow servicemen.
Before his military service, Neil achieved success as a high school ski jumper. In 1973, he soared to victory as the Junior National Boys Ski Jumping Champion. He also possessed a wonderful voice and found joy in sharing his musical gifts with others as a member of his high school choir. In adulthood, Neil joined the Apollo Club, an esteemed adult male choir. His rich voice brought joy to all who had the pleasure of listening. Neil's love for music extended to karaoke nights, where he could often be found entertaining friends with his favorite tunes.
Neil and his beloved wife, Tammy, were entrepreneurs and founded and operated a successful catering company together, Catering with Care. During the summers, Neil and Tammy cherished their time at Winjum's Shady Acres campground resort in Faribault, MN. There, they made lifelong friends and countless memories. Their summers at the campground were filled with laughter, shared stories, and the warmth of friendship.
He enjoyed spending time with family and attended the sporting events and band concerts of his grandchildren whenever he could. Neil especially loved Christmas and was a great narrator of The Night Before Christmas, which quickly became a tradition.
Neil's dedication to community was evidenced by his active involvement in the Faribault Elks 1166, part of the Minnesota Elks State Association. He served as the esteemed State President from 2014 to 2015, embodying the values of service and quality of life that define the organization. He was a dedicated advocate for the Elks Youth Camp as well as the Hoop Shoot Program. He made countless friends and lifelong connections through this organization.
Neil and Tammy shared a vision of retiring somewhere warm and by the ocean. They turned their dream into reality and their journey led them to the sandy shores of Panama City Beach, where they found solace and joy in the gentle rhythm of the ocean waves and the endless expanse of the beach. They easily forged friendships with their warm hearts and welcoming smiles. Neil's genuine kindness, quick wit, and infectious laughter endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a beacon of light in the lives of his friends, bringing joy, comfort, and fellowship wherever he went.
Neil's presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to shine brightly, guiding and inspiring all who were fortunate enough to call him a friend.
Neil leaves behind his spouse, Tammy Andreae Johnson, daughters Nicole, Rebecca, and Andria as well as grandchildren Lucas, Keenan, Connelly, Leightyn, and Maveryck. He is also survived by his brothers John Johnson (Deanne) and Dave Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norita and Arthur Johnson.
There will be two gatherings to celebrate Neil's life:
Florida- June 15th, 2024, at Fleet Reserve Association, 2117 Wilkinson Ave, Panama City Beach, Florida 32408, from 1-3 pm.
Minnesota-July 14th, 2024, at Faribault Elks 1166, 28 3rd Street Northwest, Faribault, Mn 55021
