Neil R. Schraith passed away peacefully in his beloved home in St. Charles, MO, on March 24, 2024, from complications of end stage liver disease. Neil was 52.
Born in Milwaukee, WI, Neil graduated from Nicolet High School in Glendale, and was a graduate of Bradley University in Peoria, Il, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Manufacturing Engineering. His first job out of college in 1994 was with McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, MO, (later acquired by Boeing) where he spent his entire post graduate career.
Neil took great pride in his role in the development of multiple defense aerospace projects: F-18, F-15, UCAV, JSF, 777X, and many more, including some "he couldn't talk about." Neil's dedication and contributions to Boeing were invaluable, leaving a lasting legacy within the aerospace industry.
A lifelong student, Neil earned several Master's Degrees in related fields.
Beyond his educational and professional accomplishments, Neil was known for his dedication to mentoring and guiding aspiring engineers. His involvement in programs like the Explorer program allowed him to share his knowledge and passion with the next generation of engineering professionals, leaving a lasting impact on their lives and careers.
Despite his professional achievements, Neil silently fought a lifelong battle with depression and a nearly 30-year battle with alcoholism. A struggle he kept largely private from those around him.
Neil's passing serves as a reminder of the personal battles many individuals face and the importance of reaching out for support when needed.
Neil will be remembered fondly for his integrity, kindness, and unwavering commitment to his family, work, and community. He is survived by his brother Mark (Andrea), niece Clara, nephew Luca, and countless family members and friends. Neil was preceded in death by his parents, Roman F. and Mary Ann Schraith (nee Schroeder).
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Neil's life will be held on Saturday, May 11, from 3pm - 7pm at the Bavarian Bierhaus (formerly the Bavarian Inn) in Neil's childhood hometown of Glendale, WI.
