Nelda Charlene Snelling

Nelda Charlene Snelling, 97, of Crawfordsville, passed away on February 28, 2026 after living a blessed life for nearly a century.

Charlene was born on August 4, 1928 in Crawfordsville to Charlie and Alma Carter. She grew up with four sisters. She married the love of her life, Robert Gene Snelling, at age 16 and was happily married for 66 years. Charlene spent her life devoted to her family, as a homemaker, raising 3 children.

She enjoyed attending weekly dances at the Legion with her sisters, playing cards and bingo, and was an avid reader.

On her 70th birthday, her first great grandchild, Hannah, was born. Sharing her birthday added to their special bond.

Charlene was preceded in death by her husband; son, Stephen Ross Snelling; son-in-laws, Tim Dennis and William Ball; grandaughter-in-law Kimberly Cunningham; and sisters, Euleta Dowell and Joann Schlosser.

She is survived by daughters, Pamela Ball and Jennifer (Rod) Bradley; sisters, Ramona Cummings and June McIntyre; grandsons, Mike (Miranda) Snelling, Jay (Tammy) Cunningham, Jeff Cunningham, Zachary (Brooke) Kline and Jaden Dennis; great-grandchildren, Hannah (Jonny) Newgent, Bailey Snelling, Kyle (Ameya) Cunningham, Brent Cunningham and Drew Snelling; and great-great grandchildren, Parker and Klay Newgent.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at 11am at Waynetown Masonic Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband and son.
