From the beginning she radiated strength, grace and a fierce sense of purpose that would define the life that she lived. Affectionately known as Big Mama, she grew up in a close-knit community where she cultivated deep roots of faith, family, and love. She was an avid lover of horses. She was a proud graduate of Yonkers High School.
Nellie is survived by her loving mother Jean Driver: her longtime companion and father of her children: Pilton Chandler; her seven loving and devoted children: Kanika Walker, Letisha Driver, Jean Chandler, Pilton Chandler Jr, Robert Chandler, Sadie Chandler, and Carlton Chandler; her grandchildren: Diontae, Diondre, Kaliyah, Rashad Jr. Kiara, Miracle, Adrianna, Jordan, Iazyah, Nasir, Aniecia, Alana, Jalizza, Jaliyah, RJ, and Elise; brothers Too-Too, Randell and Tony; as well as her sister Margie; and many aunts and uncles who adored her, and a host of cousins who shared in her joyful spirit. Nellie was predeceased by her father, Rudolph Driver and her brother Reggie.
Those who knew Nellie will remember her for her infectious smile and overwhelming loudmouth, her deep-rooted faith in Jesus. As well as her unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone that she encountered. She had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed her path.
Although Nellie's physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us.
A gathering will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, located at 401 Broadway in Monticello, NY with Pastor Seth Switzer officiating a service at 3pm. Cremation will follow the services.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen Kenny Funeral Home of Monticello, NY.
