Blanche A. Shimer

Blanche Shimer was born May 1, 1932 and entered into rest on October 5, 2025 at her home in Shokan, NY. She was the daughter of Anthony and Anna (White) Stankovich from Cementon, NY. Blanche was predeceased by her beloved husband Lloyd, sister Pauline (John) Wishart, and brothers Eugene (Beulah) and Anthony (Marguerite) Stankovich. The family suffered the untimely loss of Donald Shimer in 1999.
She is survived by her brother Edward (Ann) Stankovich of Albany, NY, and daughter-in-law Pamela Shimer (Donald) in Dewitt, NY. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters Sharon Zelasko (Peter), Tracey (Richard) and Tricia Shimer. "Meme" leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Kimberly Tonic, Corry Derschang, Trapper and Griffin Van Dreason, and great-grandchildren Rebecca, Thomas, Loralei and Jakob.
Blanche was the first of her family to attend and graduate college, first with a Nursing license from Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, NY and then a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Boston University. She proudly served at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albany, NY, where she met and married Lloyd. She also worked at various area hospitals before retiring from Sullivan County Public Health. Blanche was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church Ave Maria Guild in Wurtsboro, NY, the Public Health Advisory Board, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Mamakating Seniors. Blanche loved the Adirondack mountains and spent many happy years at her home in Brant Lake, NY. She was dedicated in service to her family and her profession. She will be fondly remembered for helping friends and neighbors in their time of need. The family wishes to thank Hudson Valley Hospice for their assistance in her last year of life.
