Mrs. Nellie E. Cook, 90, of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. She was born on November 1, 1934, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to the late Eldridge and Estelle Simpson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Arlen Cook; son, Ricky A. Cook; brothers, John Williams Simpson and James Allen Simpson; sisters and brother-in-law, Daisy Dean Simpson, Leona and John A. Barrett.

Mrs. Nellie loved the Lord first and foremost, her family, her friends, and all her “children”. She taught preschool at Mrs Nellie’s Busy Bee kindergarten for right at 30 years. She not only taught the children their ABC’s, 123’s, how to properly color in the lines, and to respect their parents; she also taught them about Jesus and how much He loved them. They learned a Bible verse for every letter of the alphabet, that many can still recite after all these years. Her “children” adored her because of the love she gave to them. No matter how old her students may have been, they were and always would be her “children” and she loved them all. She was gentle, patient, loving, and kind. Her love and faith in her Heavenly Father was what carried her through many hard times and who she gave all the praise to in good times. She was a powerful prayer warrior. She would call you by name in her prayers and prayed fervently until she knew your prayer was answered. She was faithful to send a card on your birthday, to the sick, during a loss, or when she was just “thinking of you”. She would call and check on you if you were sick and check on you until she knew you were well. She loved everyone and was loved by so very many. The Lord only made one Mrs. Nellie and we are all beyond blessed for knowing her, loving her, and being loved by her.

Nellie is survived by her grandsons, Richard A. Cook (Christian Riley) and Colby T. Cook (Amy); daughter-in-law, Terysa Redwine; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Simpson and Polly Simpson; and great-grandchildren, Emersyn and Grayson.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 12:00 Noon until 3:00 PM at Echota Baptist Church.

The funeral service will follow on Saturday at 3:00 PM from Echota Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Anderson and Rev. Lucas Butler officiating. Burial will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Park.

The Brannon family and staff are honored to serve the family of Mrs. Nellie E. Cook.
