Mr. Joe Martin Wood Jr., age 86 of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away on Monday, October 6th, 2025, at his residence.
Mr. Wood was born in Fairmount, Georgia on November 19th, 1938, to the late Joe Wood Sr and the late Elizabeth Shellhorse Woods. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Ann Stephens Wood; daughter, Melissa Ann “Missy” Shugart. Mr. Wood was a veteran of the United States Navy. After being honorably discharged, he worked most of his career at Lockheed-Martin, retiring after 20 years of service. After retirement, he went back to work at Calhoun City Schools. He loved to spend time outdoors, mowing his yard, cleaning house, and going to Walmart on Thursday, so he could socialize. He attended Meadowdale Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Todd Wood and his wife Jennifer; two daughters Tammy Bryant and her husband Scotty and Cathy Suzanne Phillips; Eight grandchildren, Keena Leanne Trapp, Trevor Bo Bryant, Darrell Phillips, Ted Phillips, Dawn Breanne Phillips, Kaleb Shugart, Anna Grace Wood and Kaitlyn Wood; seven great-grandchildren, Rali Ann Proffitt, Eli Proffitt, Jaylyn Phillips, Jyda Phillips, Jordyn Phillips, Aiden Phillips, and Riley Wader Bryant.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, October 9th, 2025, at 4 pm from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Wood Officiating. Interment will follow in Chandler Cemetery with Bo Bryant, Darrell Phillips, Tad Phillips, Scotty Bryant, Kris Trapp, and Eli Proffitt serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Thursday October 9th, from 2 PM until 4 PM at the funeral home.
