Nicholas Rose Jr. passed away in the care of his wife and family at their home on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
He was born at home in Dartmouth Massachusetts on December 22, 1940, the first child of five children to Nicholas and Juliet (Oliviera) Rose.
Nicholas was raised in Dartmouth on a working farm where he once got lost in a corn field as a child; a story he would recount to others many times over the years. As a youth, he caddied at his local golf course and frequented Horse Neck Beach with his family and friends. Known for his adventurous spirit, upon graduating from high school, Nicholas hitch-hiked across the country to California where he lived and attended college for two years.
When he returned to Massachusetts, he met the love of his life, Verna Lawrence and the two would marry in 1962. Nicholas completed his education by earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in business from SMTI (now known as UMass - Dartmouth). Nicholas and Verna would go on to have three children; Jennifer, Keith and Nicole.
Following a brief stint at IBM in New York, Nick veered away from the corporate world, moving his family to Vermont where he purchased Lemery's Citgo, a gas station and general store at the foot of Norwich University in Northfield. He and his family were able to enjoy skiing, living in a log cabin and the beauty that Vermont abounds.
Continuing in the vein of entrepreneurialism and bringing ideas from Vermont, Nicholas and his family moved back to Middleboro, Massachusetts in 1976 where he opened Woodstoves Unlimited during the oil crisis. He pursued a few other business ventures, including owning art galleries in Plymouth, MA and St. Augustine Florida. He retired in 1998.
In retirement, Nicholas enjoyed golfing, gardening, reading, traveling, quahogging and spending time with his grandchildren, particularly at the beach where he was happiest due to his love of the ocean.
He was a devoted Boston sports fan and a lover of music; Frank Sinatra and Harry Chapin were among his favorites.
Nicholas will forever be remembered as an adoring husband to his wife of 62 years, a generous father, and a fun loving Grampy.
Nicolas Rose Jr will be missed by his wife Verna, his daughter Jennifer Dresser and her husband Stephen, his son Keith Rose and his love Danielle, Nicole Corbett and her husband Jack, his six grandchildren, Cassandra Adami, Lindsey Waller, Madeline Rose, Lydia Rose, Caroline Corbett, Jack Corbett, one great grandchild Brody Adami and his sisters Janice Correia and Linda Rose. He is predeceased by his two brothers Milton and Carl Rose.
A private celebration of life will be held in his honor.
