Nick M. Charles

Nick M. Charles, a cherished patriarch, beloved husband, and treasured friend, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, at the age of 100, in his hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on March 28, 1924, in the same coastal city, Nick's life was a tapestry of hard work, dedication to family, and a zest for life that left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Nick is preceded in death by his parents, Nicolas and Isabel Charles; his son, Ruben M. Moya; his brothers, Robert, Raul, Felix, and Samuel; and his sisters, Genoveva, Clara, Josephine, and Juana. He is also preceded in death by his daughters-in-law, Rosa Rita Montoya and Mary Alice Tijerina; and his grandchildren, Samuel Charles Moya, Cynthia Moya Arguijo, and Kristi Leann Moya.
His legacy continues through his loving wife of nearly 63 years, Sapopa M. Charles; his sons, Corando M. Moya (Blanca), and Guadalupe M. Moya (Jeannette); his brother, Ruben Charles; and his sisters, Isabel Charles Moore and Ernestina Charles Oudie. Nick's memory will also be cherished by his 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 30 great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
Nick's work ethic was as strong as his love for family. He dedicated 25 years to the Corpus Christi Independent School District before retiring. His earlier years saw him as a hardworking dishwasher and line server at The Corpus Christi Town Club in the 60s and 70s, and he also served the community through his employment at Corpus Christi Airport in the 1980s. Nick's commitment to his work was matched only by his commitment to his loved ones and his community.
An avid fisherman, Nick was fondly known as "Camaron" by those who shared his passion for the sea. His love for poker was legendary among his siblings, with their Friday night games often turning into weekend-long events filled with laughter and camaraderie. Nick's sense of adventure took him and his wife, Sapopa, on numerous travels, creating memories that would last a lifetime. At parties, he was always a popular dance partner, moving with a grace and joy that was infectious.
Nick's sense of humor, friendliness, and loving nature were the hallmarks of his personality. He had the rare ability to light up a room with his wit and to make everyone feel welcome and valued. His laughter was a melody that resonated in the hearts of those who heard it, and his warm presence will be profoundly missed.
The pallbearers, carrying on Nick's legacy with honor, will be his great-grandsons, Samuel C. Moya, Ashton DeLaGarza, Jeremiah DeLaCerda, Xavier Amos, and Anthony Leal; and his great-great-grandson, Xavier Lira. Jayce Hernandez will serve as an honorary pallbearer, a testament to the deep bonds Nick formed with the younger generations of his family.
Nick M. Charles lived a century of love, laughter, and service. His journey on earth may have come to a close, but his spirit continues to inspire and guide those he left behind. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we do so with gratitude for the time we shared with him and the countless ways he enriched our lives. Nick's story is one of a life well-lived, and though he will be missed, his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Nicks' family will receive condolences on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St., from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM; with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM. His Chapel Service will begin at 1:30 PM on Monday, March 17, 2025, with his Rite of Committal and Interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
