Nick Surratt, 78, of Jacksonville, IL died Monday, July 1, 2024, at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 31, 1946, at Our Saviour's Hospital in Jacksonville, the son of Donald "Binger" and Elsie (Allen) Surratt. He married Beverly E. Spangenberg on June 6, 1970, at Grace United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, and she survives.
He is also survived by one daughter, Angela K. Surratt of Jacksonville; two brothers, Jay (Joyce) Surratt of Meredosia and Steve (Debbie) Surratt of DeFuniak Springs, FL; two sisters, Kimberly (Bill) Vannier of Meredosia and Kaye Surratt of Chapin; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Bradley Allen Surratt.
Nick was a graduate of Meredosia – Chambersburg High School and Illinois College, where he received a degree in business and accounting. He worked for the Internal Revenue Service and later became a partner with Zumbahlen, Eyth, Surratt, Foote & Flynn, Ltd. in Jacksonville, retiring on April 15, 2012. He was proud to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, serving from March 1966 to December 1968. Nick was a member of the Jacksonville Country Club, the Jacksonville Elks Lodge and the Meredosia American Legion. He especially loved to golf and enjoyed camping with his great nephews.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Friday, July 5, 2024, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 9:30 am to 11:00 am prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to Jacksonville Food Center. Condolences may be sent online at buchanancody.com.
