Nicklas Benjamin Vorpagel
9/25/1999 – 6/1/2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nicklas Vorpagel, age 25, on 6/1/2025. He left us unexpectedly, and our hearts are heavy with the loss of someone so cherished and beloved.
Born on September 25, 1999, in Detroit, Michigan, Nick was the cherished son of Victoria Betker (Bennett) and Mark Vorpagel. As the second child, he joined his sister Kayla, completing their family of four. After the separation of Mark and Vikky in the early 2000s, Nick's circle of love expanded, as he remained the youngest member of two blended families in which he spent 21 wonderful years. Nicks life was filled with the love and support of his father Mark Vorpagel, stepmother Julie Vorpagel, mother Vikky Betker, stepfather Andy Betker, sister Kayla Vorpagel and step siblings Danielle Boni and Cameron Walton. Nick shared close bonds with all his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. He particularly had strong bonds with his grandma Marie Vorpagel and aunt Lisa Vorpagel, with whom he was living with at the time of the accident. For his entire life Nick spent a significant amount of time with family and friends, whether that was camping, pool days, summer sleep overs, holidays and more. As the only boy among the six Vorpagel cousins crew, you may say he had unique and often outnumbered experiences growing up. This all speaks to how deeply connect he was to family, and how much his absence leaves a significant void in the lives of everyone who knew and loved him.
Nick grew up in the Eastpointe area before moving to Macomb Twp., where he attended Ebeling Elementary, Bemis Middle School, and Henry Ford II High School. After high school, Nick devoted his time to helping care for his mother while she was sick until she ultimately passed in 2024. Following this life-changing event, Nick began working with his dad at Fairmont Sign Company in late 2024-a job he grew to love. He often spoke about how much he enjoyed the work he was doing. Not many people get the opportunity to work alongside their parents every day, and this was something very special for both Nick and his father, Mark. Memories that will now be cherished forever.
If you knew Nick, you knew his one true passion was motorcycles. You could always tell when Nick was at an event because he'd park his bike right on the sidewalk in front-it was his signature move. Over the last few years, Nick had built a community of friends who shared his love for motorcycles. They would often ride around the metro Detroit area together. It was a true passion of his and something that brought immense joy to his life. However, Nicks remembrance goes beyond his love of bikes. He was a son, a grandson, a brother, a nephew, and an uncle. He wore the title of uncle the proudest and cherished every moment spent with his nieces, Lylah, Charlotte and Riley, and his newest nephew, Logan. Growing up in a family with four children, everyone tends to have a role, and Nick was always the sweet one. He was truly a caregiver at heart. You would always find him with a positive attitude and a smile on his face, Nick truly loved those around him deeply.
Nick is survived by his father Mark Vorpagel, stepparents Julie Vorpagel and Andy Betker; his siblings, Kayla Vorpagel, Danielle Boni, and Cameron Walton; and his grandparents, Marie Vorpagel, Butch Bennett and Jean Thibeault, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends who will miss him dearly. Nick was preceded in death by his mother, Vikky Betker, his grandfather, Russ Vorpagel and grandmother JoAnn Bennett. We look to find comfort in knowing that three of his favorite people were waiting to greet him on the other side.
A celebration of Nicks's life will be held on 8/23/25 from 3pm to 9pm at Walter & Mary Burke Park. Located at 36300 Front St., New Baltimore MI 48047. All are welcome to attend and share in the memories of Nick's beautiful life. We will be BBQing, and you are more than welcome to bring a side dish or a dessert.
Though Nick is no longer with us, he will always be the sweet one to our family and to all those who knew him. His spirit will remain in our hearts; his presence will forever be deeply missed but never forgotten
