Niles Stephen Nimmo passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. Niles was born on September 24, 1943, in Springfield, Illinois.
Niles graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor ‘s degree in Marketing before earning his Doctorate in Law from Nashville School of Law. Niles began his 40+ year legal career serving as a Public Defender, then moving into private practice. In both his personal and professional life, Niles enjoyed helping people and was a great friend to many. A lifelong avid boater, he was an active member of the Cumberland Old Hickory Yacht Club where he formed many long-lasting friendships. Prior to his legal career, Niles proudly served his country as an MP in the U.S. Army serving in France. Above all, Niles was a loving husband, dad, and papa. A great teller of tales, his sense of humor, love, and laughter will be missed by many.
Niles is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Mary Jane (Kerber) Nimmo; daughters Hilary (Chris) Lounder and Ashley Turner; grandchildren Emily (Ross) Ballard, Sarah (Houston) Evans, Ellie Turner, Knox Lounder and Niles Lounder; along with 5 great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his brothers Price (Monica) Nimmo and Kevin Nimmo; sister Niki Nimmo and numerous extended family and friends. Niles is preceded in death by his parents L.W. and Elizabeth Nimmo, his brother Bruce Nimmo, sister Mimi Nimmo and his son-in-law Jimmy Turner.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 4pm-7pm at Hendersonville Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024, beginning at 11am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Madison.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Niles’ name to Veranda Ministries in Gallatin, TN or the Alzheimer’s Association.
