Nola Mikich
HUNTINGTON- Nola Fay (Pedersen) Mikich passed away in the early morning of November 27, 2024, surrounded by her daughters. She was born in Park City, Utah, on August 27, 1935. The family will not hold a formal funeral but will celebrate her life in the Spring to honor her life.
Nola's love for her family was unwavering. She married Dallas Lamar Mikich, and though their paths diverged, she fondly recalled their adventures during his service in the Marine Corps and their time traveling together. His letters of love and devotion during his deployment to Japan were a testament to their love.
Her children will lovingly remember Nola: LynnAnn (David) Day, Gerald (Selyna) Mikich, and Kathleen (Joel) Mikich-Ivie. She is preceded in death by her son, Paul E. Mikich, her mother, Dora Pedersen Clark, her father, Roy A. Pedersen, and her siblings: Florence Neally, Clyde Pedersen, Darlene VanValkenburg, and Myrna Williams.
Among Nola's most cherished achievements was her remarkable graduation from the prestigious Sherwood Music School at the young age of 13 on a memorable day, August 28, 1948. In the years that followed, she dedicated herself to working in Billeting at Camp Williams, where she formed deep connections with the soldiers, whom she affectionately considered to be her second family. The many military coins she received from the soldiers where a source of honor for her. She treasured these coins and often spoke of each coin and who gave them to her.
Nola's grandchildren rallied around her during her final months. She was pleased when they surprised her with a hospital visit and made her day by reminiscing with her. When she was released from the hospital to go home for her final weeks, she was touched when she came home with the yard work done and her clean home done by her grandchildren and daughters. Her grandson left her many voicemails with cute songs expressing love for her. She sat with her granddaughter and listened to the love letters re-read to her. She awoke at 9 am sharp every morning when her son, Jerry, would call to ensure she took her meds on time. Knowing she only had a few months left gave us the rare opportunity to spend time with her. We are so thankful she had these weeks filled with her friends, children, grandchildren, and extended family visits from her nieces and nephew.
Nola wished to remain in her home until she returned to her heavenly resting place. Her children, LynnAnn, Kathy, and Jerry, could coordinate continual care, taking shifts to be with her. We were honored and privileged to arrange our time to make her wish a reality.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Tom Grimm and Tiana McElprang for their kindness and efforts to improve Nola's life. Tom, a thoughtful neighbor, took care of her garbage and snow removal for years, always ready to help without being asked. Tiana her dedicated Hospice Nurse, went above and beyond her duties, often checking on Nola at night or day. Her compassionate care ensured Nola's last months were comfortable and pain-free, providing both physical and emotional support.
Mom, we love you dearly and hope your heavenly reunion was as beautiful as you are. You will always be in our hearts.
