Gerald Lamar "Jerry" Mikich
October 19, 1958 – August 16, 2025
Gerald Lamar Mikich, known affectionately to many as "Mayor," passed away suddenly on August 16, 2025, in Monticello, Utah. His last days were very beautiful and serene, spent in the mountains of Monticello riding his ATV with his wife and friends, Jason and Jackie. He was 66 years old.
Jerry was the beloved son of Dallas and Nola (Pedersen) Mikich. He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Mikich. He is survived by his devoted wife and high school sweetheart of 47 years, Selyna Charley Mikich; his daughter Kelli Jo (Max) Franco; and his cherished grandchildren Tristan Michelsen, Kamden "Boogie" Franco, Marcela Franco, Nick Franco, Gabe Franco, and Jocelyn Franco. He is also survived by his sisters LynnAnn (David) Day and Kathy (Joel) Mikich-Ivie, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who adored him.
Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His family was his pride and joy-he loved nothing more than spending time with them, sharing stories, and enjoying the simple moments together. Known for his quick wit and memorable comebacks, Jerry had a gift for storytelling and could light up any gathering with laughter and warmth.
An avid hunter and outdoorsman, Jerry found peace in the mountains and joy in sharing those adventures with the people he loved. For many years, Jerry and his best friend Jason hunted together, and eventually the two introduced their wives, Selyna and Jackie, to the bow hunt campouts. From then on, the four of them built a lifelong bond, spending countless hunts and camping trips side by side. Jason and Jackie were not only his closest friends but also like family, sharing traditions, laughter, and unforgettable memories year after year.
Jerry loved golf, camping, and carrying on the family tradition of roasting a pig on a spit for the annual barbecue-a skill taught by his father. At the cherished "No Name City" family reunions, Jerry proudly held the role of "honorary Mayor." He was always the first to help set up camp or share a meal with anyone hungry.
You would often hear Jerry sing "Wanderin' Star":
I was born under a Wanderin' star.
When I get to heaven, tie me to a tree,
Or I'll begin to roam, and soon you'll know where I will be.
I was born under a wanderin' star,
A wanderin', wanderin' star.
This song, sung in his spirited way, will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
Jerry dedicated decades of hard work to Kennecott Copper, where he built lasting friendships before retiring to enjoy more time at home with his wife, family, and friends.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Jason and Jackie Prestwich, whose love and tireless efforts to revive Jerry in his final moments, and their care for Selyna until the family could arrive, will never be forgotten.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be announced at a later date. He was deeply loved, profoundly cherished, and will be missed beyond measure.
"We love you 88, Mayor."
