Obituary published on Legacy.com by William H. Clark Funeral Home, Inc. on Mar. 3, 2023.
Nora J. Cilurso, 88, of Stroudsburg, passed away at home on Thursday evening, February 23, 2023, while under care of Lehigh Valley-Pocono Hospice. She was the widow of Francis Paul Cilurso with whom she shared 47 years of marriage at the time of his death on May 13, 2001.
Born on February 11, 1935, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late George and Caroline (Neyhart) Pipher. Nora grew up in Scranton and lived in Monroe County for most of her life other than from 1977 to 1990 when she, her husband and her daughter lived in California.
She was a 1953 graduate of Stroudsburg High School and worked a total of 33 years with Bell Telephone Company (later Verizon). For 20 years she was a telephone operator in Stroudsburg and the remainder of time in California in telephone bill fraud investigation.
Nora was a long-time active member of Zion United Church of Christ in Stroudsburg where she sang in the choir for many years and was a member and past president of the Church Guild. She was active with Church Women United and had a special love for their annual Christmas stocking project. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Bell Telephone Pioneers. Many volunteer activities included helping with bingo at Pleasant Valley Manor; singing with the Pocono Vocal Locals; and volunteered with her son at the Golden Age Air Museum. She was also involved with Taking Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS), the Red Hat Society, the Monroe County Historical Society, and the American Legion Women's Auxiliary.
Surviving are 2 children, Michael Cilurso of Schnecksville and Teri Cilurso of Garden Grove, California; 2 sisters-in-law, Jean Cilurso and Jane Cilurso; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Pipher her niece, Louise Pipher, and her brothers-in-law Vince, Frank and Charles Cilurso.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 18th at Zion United Church of Christ, 14 North 8th Street, Stroudsburg with visitation beginning at 2:00PM followed by the funeral service at 3:00PM with Pastor Brenda Hobson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial remembrances be made to Zion United Church of Christ.

Nora and I were cousins. She was about 11 when I was born. My grandmother was Nora's aunt. When we were young we had wonderful Christmas celebrations at my great grandmother's home next door to Nora's home. Nora was a very special person and will live on in my heart.
